Bayleys has come a long way since it began operations in 1973 with a staff of just three – the late Graham and Pam Bayley and their son John – operating out of the family residence in Pakuranga in Auckland. A career change in the mid 1960s, when Graham decided on a switch into real estate after more than 20 years of farming, proved to be a fortuitous one for the Bayley family.

Following a period working for a Hamilton real estate agency where Graham was joined by John (then in his early 20s), father and son decided to establish their own agency focused on the rapidly growing South Auckland market. Now, more than 40 years on, all of Graham and Pam’s children work with or are involved with the business. John Bayley is chairman of the board and offers support around the country for the franchises. David Bayley joined the company in the mid 1970s and is principal shareholder with John, along with overseeing the Auckland commercial and industrial (C&I) business as executive director of BRE Auckland.

Dinah Macky (nee Bayley) and children Mark Macky and Kirsty Stevenson are owners of 11 Bayleys offices north of Auckland through to Northland. Chris Bayley is the national director of international sales, based at the Maritime Square office. Tony Bayley is the Bayleys Real Estate company licensee and compliance manager.

Eight grandchildren currently work for the company. Mike Bayley is managing director of Bayley Corporation. Ben Bayley is the sales manager of the company’s Manukau commercial branch, where Nick Bayley is a commercial and industrial sales agent. Rachel Bayley works in sales specialising in projects and developments. Matt Bayley is project and development assistant with Platform Consulting, while Maddy Bayley is working as a team administrator and marketing executive of Bayleys Real Estate.

For more than 40 years, the Bayley family, driven by a determination to be the best, has applied the same set of rigorous business principles to all areas of Bayleys’ operations. As John Bayley says; “Never be satisfied with where you are. Constantly search for improvements, which will enable a high standard of client service to be maintained in a competitive market.
